Project description

KUBATEC was asked by the Swiss Federal Railways for a solution for demolishing the foundations of the electricity pylons. The problem was that until now, even when only a few foundations were demolished, the tracks had to be closed in order to carry out the chiseling work with the excavator. It provides an enormous advantage if the foundations can be carried out by a small team equipped only with a drill and Betonamit. In response to this request, KUBATEC evaluated the optimum drilling schemes and carried out a test in Weinfelden and Romanshorn. The work could be carried out as expected and desired, and the foundations were dismantled and removed with ease. The demolition and crushing of electricity pylon foundations are important tasks in the field of construction and infrastructure work. These foundations are often made of solid concrete and require effective, safe and efficient methods for their removal. The use of swelling explosives is a modern, explosion-free method that is ideal for this project. Swelling concrete, blast concrete or swelling explosives provide a controlled way to break up power pole foundations without the risks and challenges of traditional blasting techniques. This method not only minimizes vibration, but also the potential damage to surrounding structures. Through the targeted use of swelling explosives, companies and clients can ensure that the demolition process is both effective and environmentally friendly. In this text, you will learn how to crush power pole foundations, what procedures are required and what safety precautions need to be observed.

Project schedule

1. drill holes 2. Mixing and filling with Betonamit 3. Allow to set 4. Dismantle and dispose of fragments. 5. Remove anchor reinforcing bars. 6. Fill any holes or depressions.

Drilling information

Drill hole diameter: 32 mm Drilling depth: TARGET depth + 5 to10 cm Material / equipment Drill used: HILTI TE 70 (+- 10 Joule) Bucket: ≥ 10 liters Mixing: With electric agitator Safety: Wear gloves and safety goggles!

Consumption

Borehole diameter: 32mm Consumption at 32mm: 1.4kg Betonamit per meter of borehole Total consumption: sum of all borehole depths [Meter] x 1.4 = quantity [kg] 5 holes each 0.8 m deep = 4 meters of borehole 4 meters x 1.4kg Betonamit = 5.6kg Betonamit The consumption for the blasting of this power pole foundation was therefore around 6kg

Time / Costs

The drilling time per hole at a depth of 0.8 m was around 3-5 min. In Summer, this meant around half an hour of drilling for the 5 holes. Including mixing and filling the drill holes, this took around 1 hour in total. The material could work here over the weekend and tear up the concrete foundation. The fragments were broken up with a pick and go foot and loaded onto a trailer. At the end, the anchors were cut off with the angle grinder. The total effort was less than 2 hours. The material costs for the 5-10kg Betonamit are very manageable and are between 50 and 100 Swiss francs (60-110 euros) when demolishing this foundation The time and costs for crushing electricity pylon foundations with swelling explosives are significantly lower compared to traditional demolition methods. This explosion-free technology makes it possible to carry out the work more quickly and safely. By reducing vibrations and noise, potential disturbances are minimized, which is a great advantage in urban areas. The total time for the demolition process depends on various factors, including the size of the foundation and the complexity of the demolition. However, with careful planning and the correct application of techniques, demolition can be carried out efficiently. This not only leads to high customer satisfaction, but also to cost savings, which is crucial in the construction industry.

Expert opinion

In summary, the crushing of electricity pylon foundations with swelling explosives is a modern, safe and environmentally friendly method. By using these explosion-free explosives, companies and clients can ensure that the demolition process is efficient and controlled. The structured approach, from planning to execution, guarantees that all aspects of the project are taken into account and that the demolition can be carried out successfully. The advantages of this method are manifold: increased safety, reduced costs and time savings. In today's construction and demolition industry, it is crucial to offer innovative and efficient solutions that meet customer requirements. Swelling explosives represent exactly this solution and offer a wide range of possibilities for future projects.

Customer review

SBB is very satisfied with the solution and uses Betonamit again and again, especially for the demolition of individual foundations. Other track construction companies also use Betonamit time and again for these and similar demolition projects. Customers from this sector have been our clients for decades. The feedback from our customers is consistently positive. Many of them have emphasized the advantages of this method when crushing electricity pylon foundations with swelling explosives. In particular, the ability to work without the risks of conventional blasting techniques was appreciated. The work could be carried out without any significant disruption to the surrounding area, resulting in a high level of satisfaction. The efficiency and safety of the demolition process were particularly praised by our clients. Many clients have cited the ability to complete their projects on time and on budget as a key benefit of this technique. We are proud that our swelling explosives provide a reliable and effective solution for the demolition of electricity pylon foundations that meets the highest demands of the construction industry.
